This project is funded by the British Academy and Leverhulme Trust and is based on a collaboration between Liverpool John Moores University, the University of Edinburgh and the University of York. Research activities for the project include archival work in Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Entebbe, London and Washington DC, and extensive press research. Two workshops will run to disseminate project findings and link these to wider discussion and debate; one at the University of York in June 2017 aimed at engaging postgraduate and established researchers interested in the history of federations and decolonisation, the other at the British Institute in Eastern Africa, Nairobi in July 2017, aimed at engaging an academic and non-academic audience in East Africa with the history and politics of East African regional integration.
